Overview
Har ki Dun or “The Valley Of God” is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Garhwal Himalayas,
Uttarakhand.This is a large valley.Hikers from around the world come to this spot to enjoy the
mesmerising view of this place.It is situated at an altitude of 12,000 feet.The route trail changes
it’s colours in every season.The total trekking distance is 56 kilometres.You can cover the total
distance between 6 to 7 days.This is also a moderate trek.The valley is connected to Baspa
valley.While doing this trek you can experience the lush greenery area and many peaks.The
trekking route is really interesting and full of thrill.
Several small birds and animals can be spotted while doing this trek.The trail also goes
through many ancient villages.In these villages you can take a taste of the local culture.
These villages are almost 2000 years old.
The Har Ki Dun trek is a paradise for all the adventure lovers.You need to get physically and mentally prepared
for this trek.Before some months of the trekking you need to follow a fitness routine this will
help you very much.
Best Time
One can trek here around the year.But try to avoid the monsoon season for this trek because
this time the trails can be slippery.Due to heavy showers your total journey can be ruined.However,
the best time for this trek is March to June and September to January.
How ro Reach
By Rail:The closest railway station is Dehradun Railway station.It is connected with many major cities of
India like Kolkata,Lucknow,Delhi.From Delhi you can take the Nandadevi express or you can take
the Dehradun express.
By Road: Every morning at 6 to 8 am few buses leave from Dehradun Railway station to Sankri.
These buses take around 9 to 10 hours.You can also take a cab to the Sankri that takes around 7
to 8 hours.
By Air: The closest airport is Jolly Grant Airport.This airport is connected with many major Indian
cities like New Delhi.
Trek Route
Day 1
On the first day you need to reach the base camp which is in Sankri.Sankri situated in the Govind
Wildlife Sanctuary which is in Uttarkashi district.The village is beautiful for wooden huts.There are
around 250 houses in the village.After arriving at the base you can enjoy the peaceful environment.
Hre one can experience the beautiful sunset behind the Himalaya.You need to stay at night at Sankri.
Here you can enjoy the bonfire.
Day 2
In the morning after finishing your breakfast you need to trek to Taluka.On the trail you can hear the
sound of birds.Here you can also spot “Himalayan Monal” which is the state bird of Uttarakhand.
The trail will pass through dense forests,wonderful water streams that are pouring down the roads.
Taluka is a small, beautiful village.After arriving at Taluka take some rest here.Then you need to
start your trek to Seema that is 14 km from here.Seema is not a village it is a shelter for trekkers.
The beautiful and traditional wooden bridges will blow your mind.Here you can also spot some animals.
There is a green field just before Seema hikers can make their camp here.
Day 3
The distance between Seema to Har Ki Dun is 12 km long.While doing this trek you will be amazed to
see the snow covered mountain,various types of flora and fauna,and spontaneous waterfalls.The
trekking route goes straight to Ruinsara Tal and then Bali pass.Here you need to cross the Tamosha
river.You will arriving in the valley at evening.
Day 4
After arriving at Har Ki Dun you need to stay here overnight.In the morning you will experience the
beautiful Swargarohini range,the Jumdhar glacier, and a variety of flora & fauna.The total atmosphere
of the valley is really peaceful.The valley is a perfect place to camping.It is a paradise to photography
lovers and also nature lovers.The stunning beauty of the mountain,glaciers will definitely blow your mind.
Day 5
After finishing your breakfast you need to start trekking back to Seema.I know that this is really
painful to leave the valley but you also need to come back to your home.
At night you need to stay at Seema.Here you will get a stunning view of the sunset.
Day 6
This morning you start trekking for the last time from Seema to Taluka.After reaching Taluka you
need to drive back to Sankri from where your journey begins.
Day 7
From the base you will take a taxi and go back to Dehradun from where your journey begins to
your hometown.
